EXPRESSION OF INTEREST

Adult Education Program Mentor and Transitions Guide

Kwanlin Dün First Nation is seeking people with an interest in being a mentor and supportive guide on the life journey and career path of participants in the Department of Education's adult education programming, which is focused on (though not exclusive to) aiding unemployed and underemployed Kwanlin Dün Citizens. The immediate need for a mentor and transition guide is in the Housing Maintainer program and is being funded through a partnership with Yukon College under the direction of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation Education Department at Kenädän Ku ? (House of Learning) and would offer the flexibility of either a full-time or part-time position, on a casual contractual basis. This opportunity may include the potential to further fund training to increase capacity within the role for the selected applicant and would be engaged through a casual contract through Yukon College.

An eligibility list of applicants will be created for future programs or projects within the KDFN Department of Education.

The role would include, but not be limited to, guiding program participants in:
· Recognizing their gifts, aptitudes, and skills
· Finding balance between their spiritual, emotional, mental, and physical needs for a healthy life
· Identifying their personal style/spirit
· Making connections between self, family, and community
· Making connections to culture, the natural world, and the spiritual world
· Identifying a possible career path
· Acting as a healthy mentor and role model to program participants

Due to the nature of typical adult education programming, it would also be an asset if an applicant had a background in any of the following occupational and cultural classifications:
· Management/Administration (e.g. administrative assistant)
· Skilled Trades/Technical Jobs (e.g. carpentry)
· Labour Jobs (cleaning staff)
· Traditional Pursuits (e.g. trapping, sewing, hunting, medicine gathering, etc.)
