Position: Early Childhood Educator

Education/ Dusk'a Head Start Family Learning Centre

The Dusk'a Head Start Family Learning Centre provides a holistic service, folding families/caregivers into the child development process while responding to special and individual child development needs, and building a strong sense of place, belonging and self-identity with respect to language and culture. The core program for the Centre is based on the Aboriginal Head Start Program with an emphasis on integrated early learning focused on whole family learning, aboriginal language and culture, and support for individual and special needs.


We are seeking to fill a permanent full time Early Childhood Educator position on our team. Services offered by the Centre demand a high level of professional and personal skills with corresponding expectations in regard to professional qualifications and personal wellness. Knowledge of whole family learning, Aboriginal Head Start, aboriginal culture and history are required in order to be successful in the position, as is a knowledge of or willingness to learn Kwanlin Dün history, culture, goals and aspirations.


Qualifications:
· Level III (3) Early Childhood Education designation
· Current successful experience working with children 18 months to 5 years of age in a licensed child care environment demonstrating/modelling healthy and positive behaviours
· Recent experience planning, developing and implementing a variety of recreational, social, life skill and parenting programming and activities relevant to First Nation children which meet group and individual needs
· Experience working effectively in a team environment
· Demonstrated work ethic and the ability to maintain professional confidentiality


Note: An equivalent combination of education and considerable experience in the areas noted above will be equally considered.


Conditions of employment include:
· Early Childhood Certification with a willingness to maintain and continue education
· An acceptable criminal records check
· A valid first aid certificate
· Medical clearance, 'fit to work' designation & TB test
· Current immunization record
· Valid Yukon Class 5 Driver's license is an asset, Class 4 license is desirable

Salary: Industry Standard
