Job Title: Junior Outdoor Interpretive Guide
Department: Infrastructure
Status: Auxiliary
Salary: $19.89 - $25.49 / Per Hour

JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the Facility Manager, Learning Centre, with day-to-day direction from the Lead Outdoor Interpretive Guide, the Junior Outdoor Interpretive Guide provides support and guidance in outdoor programming for guests visiting to the Learning Centre. Responsibilities will include instruction and guide services for activities such as bike tours, walking tours, horse tours and on the water paddling. While leading a tour, Guides will manage all aspects of the tour, and are responsible for interpretive information, risk management, and guest satisfaction.

The Junior Outdoor Interpretive Guide will assist with basic maintenance for all related equipment facilities and trails. The work location will primarily be within a 20 km radius of the learning Centre location in Carcross. Guides will assist with administrative duties and sales and bookings. The Senior Outdoor Interpretative Guide will be responsible for training and assisting Junior Interpretative Guides.

QUALIFICATIONS (Candidate application/resumes should clearly demonstrate their related qualifications as selection for further consideration will be based on the information provided)

• High School diploma, or GED
• Experience in outdoor program activities or related education
• Excellent guest service and communication skills
• Strong knowledge of C/TFN traditional territory, history and culture
• Public speaking experience
• Highly organized and motivated
• Demonstrated leadership ability
• Exceptional written and verbal communications skills
• Current certification in First Aid and CPR
• Valid Class 4 or 5, driver's license
• Ability to speak more than 1 language, Tlingit or Tagish preferred, will be considered an asset
• Completion of Peacemaking Circle Training is encouraged and will be considered an asset

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

• This position requires the incumbent to be in good physical condition for outdoor activities in all temperatures and weather conditions
• High degree of physical coordination and mechanical aptitude
• Must have the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Must be able to swim
