Reporting to the Heritage Director, this position is responsible for undertaking the documentation of the Hän language and for developing programs and activities that will encourage Citizens to participate in the use of language. The Language Programmer will coordinate a variety of programs including language workshops and classes, translation services, and place names work. The Language Programmer will also coordinate the development of promotional materials aimed at increasing the visibility of the Hän language.

Essential Qualifications:

· Post-Secondary training in Education, Linguistics, or a related discipline;
· Experience in developing Language related programming;
· Knowledge of Tr'ondëk Hwëch'in history, culture and language;
· Experience using a computer and related software;
· Must have strong written and verbal communications skills;
· Experience in public speaking an asset;
· Familiarity with a First Nation language, preferably the Hän language;
· Good organizational, prioritization, multi-tasking and time management skills.

Assets:

· Experience in public speaking an asset;
· Experience in conducting research and writing proposals;
· Experience in writing reports;
· Experience working with Elders an asset;
· Experience in project management;
· Carry out and update Han Language strategy, as needed;
· Ability to provide leadership to ensure language issues are considered and incorporated into government programming;
· Ability to foster unity and trust among Tr'ondek Hwech'in Elder's, staff and citizenship.

Conditions of Employment:

· Criminal Record Check;
· Driver's license with clear driver's abstract;
· Standard first aid.
