Land and Resources Summer Assistant – Term Full Time – April 30, - August 31, 2018

Job Summary
Reporting to the Land and Resources Officer, the incumbent will learn to assist with the implementation of Tr'ondëk Hwëch'in
initiatives related to land and resource use, including providing land and resource protection and technical support.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE TO BE GAINED THROUGH THIS POSITION:
· Mapping skills and use of GPS;
· Field note-taking, report-writing and filing skills;
· Ability to complete various applications and knowledge of how to issue permits;
· Opportunity to gain knowledge of TH traditional territory/settlement land, as well as land claims, implementing the Final Agreement and TH legislation;
· Experience working with other TH Departments, other Yukon First Nations, Yukon Government, TH citizens and the general public;
· Ability to be confident and comfortable while working on-the-land, including travelling by boat and ATV;
· Ability to organize and prioritize work duties and requirements;
· Computer skills, specifically Microsoft Office.

Essentials:
· Must be a unemployed Tr'ondek Hwech'in Citizen over the age of 18 with an interest pursuing a career related to renewable resources, environmental science, land- use planning, etc;
· Grade 12 or equivalent;
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
· Good organizational and time-management skills;
· Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office software or willingness to learn;
· Good oral and written communication skills.

Assets:
· MS Access, MS power point;
· Desk top Publishing;
· Interpersonal Skills;
· Related work experience;
· Experience with GPS;
· Experience operating ATV's & boats.

Conditions of Employment:
· Mandatory confidentiality is a condition of employment for all Tr'ondëk Hwëch'in personnel. Failure to meet this requirement could result in dismissal.
· Criminal Record Check;
· Valid Class 5 driver's license or willing to obtain during employment;
· Wilderness First Aid Certification or willingness to obtain certification within two months of hire date;
· Must be comfortable traveling by helicopter, boat, ATV.
