TH Farm Handyperson/General Labourer –TH Working Farm - Term Full time – (A.S.A.P. -October 26, 2018)

Under the supervision of the Farm Manager, the Farm Handyperson/General Labourer is responsible for a variety of duties. These duties can include but are not limited to general carpentry, mechanical maintenance of farm equipment, general maintenance of farm buildings, supplies

pick-up and delivery, general maintenance assistance not covered through the Housing & Infrastructure maintenance department.
Tr'ondëk Hwëch'in working farm continues to build their knowledge on northern growing and development of food security options. This year-round sustainable farm will produce a fresh source of food, including meat, for TH citizens and other community members. The Farm will incorporate TH traditional crops, non-traditional but staple food crops, medicinal herb, plants and shrubs, animal husbandry, resulting commercial products, etc., in an on-the-land seasonal and year-round greenhouse growing and shelters in multiple locations on Traditional Territory. Taking day to day task direction from the Farm Manager who reports directly to the TH Director of Education & Training, this position will undertake any number of farm maintenance tasks on the farm equipment and buildings.

Essentials:
· Appreciation for and interest in the Agricultural farming industry;
· Experience in general construction and mechanical repairs;
· Basic knowledge in mechanical operations of farm equipment;
· Ability to develop effective cooperative working relations with a wide variety of individuals from all walks of life including senior levels of government;
· Ability to take accountability for work schedule;
· Ability to report to work on time;
· Experience in general maintenance;
· Experience in using hand and electrical tools;
· Experience driving various vehicles (trucks, ATVs, boats, trailers, tractors, etc.);
· Knowledge and experience in mechanical repairs of farm equipment (eg. fluid changes, basic repairs, etc.)
· Experience dealing tactfully and respectfully with the public;
· Good organizational and time management skills;
· Ability to work efficiently without a lead supervisor;
· Responsible, reliable and accountable to assigned task;
· Punctuality and dependability;
· Good verbal and written communication skills;
· Ability to follow direction and established procedures;
· Ability to record assignment from verbal request;
· Ability to coordinate multiple job tasks within the farm environment.

Assets:
· Grade 12 with some experience in general construction and mechanical repairs;
· Familiarity with TH Land & Resources Act;
· Related Work Experience;
· ATV Safety.

Conditions of Employment:
· Mandatory confidentiality is a condition of employment for all Tr'ondëk Hwëch'in personnel. Failure to meet this requirement could result in dismissal;
· Criminal Record Check ;
· Driver's License; Clear Driver's Abstract to use TH vehicles;
· Standard First Aid – willingness to enroll if not already trained – over term when offered;
· Willingness to engage in basic skills training in agriculture at minimum;
· Participate in Farm Equipment use training;
· Ability to work a flexible work schedule when required;
· Ability to lift heavy objects.
