EDUCATION MANAGER


The Community of Mayo is situated at the confluence of the Mayo and Stewart Rivers, approximately 400 km north of Whitehorse within the Traditional Territory of the First Nation of Na-Cho Nyak Dun [FNNND]. The people pride themselves on living and practicing their traditional values. The wilderness in Mayo’s backyard is a natural attraction for residents and visitors.

THE OPPORTUNITY
This is a unique opportunity for someone to engage with local Citizens in providing educational opportunities.
Reporting to the Executive Director, you will be responsible for the development and delivery of NND Education programs offered in the community and to FNNND citizens in general. Your responsibilities will include overseeing the Post Secondary Education Training Program, the Daycare Centre and the Youth Centre as well as coordinating the activities of the CELC at the JV Clark school.

You will have an overall mandate for supporting Education staff in the development of proposals and budgets to the appropriate funding agencies. The position involves ensuring that NND Education programs are delivered with due regard to First Nation Culture and traditions.
Requirements/Qualifications
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
The required qualifications are usually gained through a Degree or Diploma in Education, Indigenous Studies or a combination of education and experience. Experience in managing and delivering programs to a diverse range of clients of all ages is necessary. You will have demonstrated knowledge and experience of early childhood, K-12, adult and special education principles and programming. Your strong decision-making and problem-solving skills through a high degree of diplomacy will be key to your success in this position. Demonstrated effective supervisory skills are necessary. The successful candidate will possess a sound knowledge of FNNND social structure, traditions and cultural values affecting First Nation’s people.

➢ Flexibility to work extra hours to meet demands of program and administration requirements

The salary range for this position is $78,644.00 - $114,452 per year [$40.19 - $58.50 per hour].
