Description/Duties
Teslin Tlingit Council is inviting covering letters & resumes for LANDS & ENVIRONMENT MANAGER

This is a six (6) month term position with the possibility of becoming Permanent

Job Summary:
Reporting to the Director of Lands and Resources and working closely with the Lands and Resources staff, the incumbent is responsible for managing, developing, directing, coordinating, implementing and evaluating a wide variety of projects and initiatives related to land and environmental management to ensure TTC effectively fulfils its mandate under its Final Agreement, other related agreements and TTC legislation. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring projects identified within the annual work plan of TTC are implemented and reported on consistently.

Main Duties:
  • Liaises with a wide variety of contacts inside and outside the TTC to keep current on lands management, environmental and related activities, opportunities, and programs including but not limited to working closely with Lands and Resources staff in developing and maintaining effective intergovernmental relations as they apply to lands management and environmental protection, establishing and maintaining liaison with a variety of boards and committees (i.e. TTC Land Management Committee, YESAA, District and Regional Land Use Planning Commission, Yukon Government Energy Mines and Resources), to keep current of land issues under their consideration and provide input on behalf of TTC, and monitoring Federal, Territorial, Provincial and other First Nation government policies and proposed modifications to legislation, regulations, and/or procedures and advising on the impact of such proposals or changes from TTC’s perspective.
  • Develops proposals and terms of reference for and manages when established, projects related to lands management
  • Assists in the development of a wide variety of policies and procedures related to lands management and environmental assessment policies and procedures for consideration of the Director Lands and Resources, Executive Council and Management Board (i.e., minerals policy, access to settlement land policy).
  • Prepares proposals and terms of reference and contracts for the selection and hiring of consultants/contractors for land management and projects, and supervises those consultants/contractors once assigned.
  • Collects information from TTC Lands to aid in the survey or administration of lands within the traditional territory

Job Knowledge, Skills & Education:
  • Undergraduate degree in earth sciences, biological sciences, geography, geology, anthropology or a related field of study. A graduate degree is preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Knowledge of Yukon and BC government agencies that may be needed to retrieve land related information
  • Knowledge of land identification and management
  • Knowledge of regional and other scales of land use and natural resource planning
  • Intensive knowledge of the Yukon Environmental and Socio-Economic Assessment Act and Regulations, and related legislation and processes in BC.
