Description/Duties
General Summary

Working from a strength-based approach, this position assists in planning, leading, implementing and evaluating the delivery and operation of programming for ElderActive Recreation Association (ERA).

The incumbent will be responsible for safely offering recreational activities such as sport, fitness, leisure, and creative programs to enhance the physical and mental well-being of Yukon’s senior population based on ERA’s vision, mission, and strategic plan.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Facilitates recreational programming in the community, including but not limited to walking groups, fitness classes, arts and craft activities.
  • Prepares resources for programming such as equipment, supplies, and digital fitness and fitness tracking smartphone apps (including maps, steps and more)
  • Adapts and modifies programs to include participants with various physical or mental abilities and meet ever-changing needs of participants
  • Encourages, inspires, and motivates seniors to improve their recreational, health and fitness-related behaviors, increasing their creativity, enjoyment, and social connections throughout
  • Evaluates and reports on programs, including successes and areas for improvement
  • Maintains documentation (including participant involvement, program evaluation) in accordance with policies/procedures, confidentiality, and security requirements
  • Ensures participant safety by managing and limiting risks, and adhering to relevant policies and reporting any safety concerns
  • Observes and reports any incidents during programming to Program Coordinator
  • Ensures recreation equipment and supplies are used, maintained, and stored in a safe, clean and efficient manner, reports unsafe or faulty equipment to Program Coordinator
  • Provides assistance, guidance and support to volunteers when necessary
  • Assists with class coverage outside of regularly scheduled classes
  • Assists in the promotion and marketing of activities/programming to the broader Yukon population through various platforms including email, newsletters, digital media
  • Supports the implementation of new initiatives/partnerships and participates in committees where necessary
  • Collaborates with ERA staff on creating and updating programming policies and procedures
  • Acts for the Program Coordinator as needed
  • Other duties as assigned
