Description/Duties
The Shelter Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day operations of Humane Society Dawson (HSD) including, but not limited to, animal care, staff supervision, overseeing volunteers and other shelter activities.
JOB DETAILS
- Term position, starts ASAP until April 2023
- Part-time: 5 hours/day, 5 days/week
- Wage $20/hour
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain a positive, clean, safe and healthy environment for employees, volunteers, visitors and animals
- Proper care and maintenance of animals; this includes feeding, exercising, organizing vet appointments and transportation, administering medicine and cleaning kennels
- Hire, train and supervise weekend staff and volunteers; this includes setting work schedules/keeping time records, managing the Facebook volunteer page and calendar, and assigning tasks and duties
- Coordinate and implement fundraising events
- Apply for grants and programs
- Promote humane education and animal care to the community
- Maintain records of animal intakes, statistics, and other administrative duties
- Writing and promoting animal bios for potential adoption, calling references of applicants, making informed decisions re; adoption, and following up on adopted animals
- Follow Humane Society Dawson policies
- Attend monthly Board meetings
- Maintain general upkeep of shelter and yard
- Other administrative tasks: interacting with visitors to the shelter; answering the phone and emails; managing the HSD website; managing social media
REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to work unsupervised
- Ability to work with the public
- Being an advocate for responsible animal ownership
- Knowledge of public relations and staff management skills
- Knowledge of website and Facebook page upkeep
- Have good written and verbal communication skills
- Be reliable and accountable
- Able to work with a team and with a volunteer Board of Directors
- Have good interpersonal skills
- Must have own transportation to and from work (5-minute car ride from town)
- Experience handling cash
- Ability to work with somewhat flexible hours
- Able to lift up to 32 kg (70 lbs)
- First Aid Certificate recommended but not required
