Salary: $17 - $20 hourly

Reporting to the Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in (TH) Farm Coordinator, the Farm Labourer is responsible for a variety of duties depending on the seasonal operation of the TH Farm. These duties may include but are not limited to tilling, shoveling, planting, weeding, feeding livestock, harvest, inventory, cleaning, organizing and other general labour duties such as basic carpentry, supplies pick¬up and delivery and basic general maintenance assistance identified by the Farm Coordinator. This position may also assist in the sales of TH Farm products as required.

The TH Farm continues to build knowledge on northern growing and development of food security options through the incorporation of traditional crops; non-traditional / staple food crops; medicinal herbs, plants, shrubs; animal husbandry; commercial products; and a year-round greenhouse. This year-round farm operation promotes the production of a fresh and sustainable source of food for community members.

An Eligibility List may be established from this competition – the duration of the eligibility list may be up to 12 months. The eligibility list may be used to fill future permanent full-time, permanent part-time, temporary full-time, temporary part-time, term, or auxiliary on-call vacancies within the same department and classification based on the organizational needs by going the next highest ranked candidate until the eligibility list expires.

Essential Qualifications:
  •  Basic knowledge or willing to learn of gardening and/or farming practices.
  •  Basic knowledge or willing to learn the raising of animals for food.
  •  Knowledge or willing to learn acceptable food storage and preservation standards.
  •  Experience or willing to learn basic general maintenance.
  •  Experience or willing to learn how use hand and electrical tools.
  •  Ability to work in strenuous positions such as kneeling, crouching, and repetitive movements.

  •  Responsible, reliable and accountable to assigned task.
  •  Punctuality and dependability.

Conditions of Employment:
  •  ATV safety, or willingness to obtain
  •  Chainsaw safety, or willingness to obtain
  •  Bear Aware, or willingness to obtain
